Waubic
February 4th. The Northern Navigation Company have decided on a name for their new ship currently being built by the Collingwood Shipbuilding Co. for their east coast route - Waubic. "The majority ruled in favor of the sweet indian name meaning 'meta' or 'metallic substance' or as now used a 'dollar'."With good weather the ship should be ready for launching in a few weeks.
On Monday, February 8th Dr. John Waugh, inspector of public schools of South Ontario will give a lecture on Scotland's national bard, Robert Burns, at the Presbyterian Church followed by a musical program. Entrance fee $.15.
February 11th "The Department of Education has announced that the High School entrance examinations in the Province will begin on Wednesday, June 23 at 8:45 am."

The Dominion Parliament announced its appropriations budget for harbors and rivers. While Burlington got $50,000, Coburg $60,000, Goderich $5,350, Little Current $28,000 and Toronto $375,000, Collingwood for the first time in many years got nothing.
Ship Took Fire
It was reported that the steamer Tecumseh recently purchased by Captain John Trethewey took fire on Sat. morning about 3 o'clock. During the shipping season she had carried coal from Cleveland to Georgian Bay ports returning with a cargo of lumber. While there was a fire in the kitchen range no fuel had been added since 6 o'clock and there was a coal stove in the dining cabin, the cause of the fire is unknown.
