Bull Fighters Suffer
 
The Spanish season has been unusually disastrous. From the commencement of the current bull fight season, April 12 last, to the present time, five bull fighters have been killed and one hundred and eleven seriously injured in Spain.

Silver dart Smashed
The famous Silver Dart aerodrome is no more.

An "error of judgment on our part in making a landing" says Casey Baldwin in giving his reasons for this state of affairs. Four successful flights, each exceeding half a mile in length were made in the early hours of Monday morning, a fine easy landing being made every time.

... McCurdy and Baldwin was going at a speed of about forty miles an hour, a landing was attempted with disastrous results.

Aug. 1 British S. S. Waratah disappears on a trip from Sydney to London, 300 lives were lost.

The first Lincoln head pennies were minted. They were 95% copper and the first U. S. coin to depict a president.
 
Aug. 2 The Wright Flyer was formally accepted by the U. S. Army in exchange for $30.000. It was designated Signal Corps Airplane #1, the world's first military airplane.
 


Aug. 4 Baseball umpire Tim Hurst instigated a riot by spitting a A's 2nd baseman Eddie Collins, who had questioned a call. This led to Hurst's banishment.

Aug. 24 Workers started pouring concrete for Panama Canal.
 
Aug. 29 World's first air race is held in Rheims France. American Glenn Curtiss won.
 
Aug. 29 A. H. Latham of France sets world airplane altitude record of 155 meters.

Aug. 31 the A. J. Reach Co. patented the cork centered baseball.
